Kalan’s Timeline

Today Kalan celebrates his third birthday. Kalan’s mum has designed a poster of photos that depict Kalan’s daily life. At group time Kalan had presented his poster to the group. He held the pointing stick in his left hand as he pointed to each photo and described it in-depth of his activity. Kalan was excited as he told the group about the activities that he and dad do at the skate park, at home and at the Lakes. Dad was very proud as he watched on from a distance. Dad then sat with Kalan to blow out the candles on the birthday cake.

Harmony Day

Today we celebrate Harmony Day by recognizing each other’s differences and similarities in comparison to our own abilities, characteristics, interests and physical appearances. Our similarity is that we are all at Kidscape today. Our differences are that we may be working on different lessons and we may be wearing different clothes and we may even be playing with different people or maybe the same people.

The similarity discovered by Euleila and Tane’ is that they are leaning about construction shapes whereas the difference being is the activity that they have chosen to enhance their skills. Nevaya’s activity is different from Euleila and Tane’ because she is learning about fractions.

Euleila and Harry are sharing a similarity for counting but they are working on different counting activities.

The similarity that Sophie, Abigail and Tane’ all share is language skill building. Sophie is learning phonetic sounds. Abigail is refining her letter recognition skills. Tane’ is forming three letter phonetic words.

We have learnt today that we have similarities that we share that attract us to friendship. We have also learnt that we have differences that may be only unique to ourselves.

EYLF 2.1.2: Demonstrate increasing awareness of the needs and rights of others.

Creamy Spaghetti

Making Pasta

For the month of February we are learning about the cultural curriculum of Italy. Reason being that we have families that have an Italian background and we want to celebrate our families by learning more about their cultural backgrounds. Tane’ has an Italian background and he was asked recently about his favourite Italian recipe. Tane’ said his favourite recipe is the creamy spaghetti. We are sharing in this cooking experience with Tane’ today by preparing this recipe.

Pippa alongside Sophie and Noah are working cooperatively to negotiate their roles within this experience. Pippa is whisking the eggs and cream together whilst Sophie and Noah take turns stirring the bacon, garlic and onions together.

Outcome 2.1.2:

Show-n-tell

This morning Lachlan had brought in show-n-tell. It was an interesting activity that was enjoyable and good for enhancing fine motor skills. Lachlan had a plastic egg carton. Inside was two pair of beginners chop sticks and several beads. Lachlan had explained and demonstrated how to use the chop sticks. Everyone was impressed and had asked Lachlan if they could have a go.

EYLF 2.1.3: take action to assist other children to participate in social groups.

Group Time Sessions

Group time sessions are a time when educators and children come together to learn from one another, exchange information and assist each other to feel part of a group. Group time this morning involved Jackson ROTE Learning the days of the week and using his letter recognition skills to locate the day Friday to place on the day tree. Georgie had followed up on days of the week by looking for the pictures of people who are here today. Georgie is using her cognitive thinking skills to process the following information: Georgie has to think about who is here, then she locates their pictures and places them up on the Kidscape board. If someone isn’t here then Georgie places their picture onto the home board. Georgie then double checks by counting the pictures on the board then doing a head count of the children here today including herself. Neo participates in group time by practicing his counting. Neo chooses a counting box from the basket then he empties the box onto the table to ensure the quantity of trains matches the number on the card. MS Nerissa participates in group time by quizzing children on their colour recognition. She is playing a game of ‘I Spy’ with the children. MS Nerissa would say ‘I spy with my little eye something beginning with…. red’ then she would hold up the red card. Neo responded by saying there is red pictures on the counting chart and Jackson said he is wearing a red shirt. As a child successfully recognised a colour then they transitioned to the bathroom for hand washing and morning tea.

EYLF OUTCOME: Outcome 1.1.5: Establish and maintain respectful, trusting relationships with other children and educators. (EYLF)

EYLF OUTCOME: 2.1.3: take action to assist other children to participate in social groups.

Happy Holidays

Happy Holidays

Today is Ms Bernie’s last day of work before starting her seven week holiday. Ms Bernadette and the children counted seven weeks on the calendar and had a discussion about a gift we could all give to Ms Bernie. We decided that we would give Ms Bernie a traveller’s wallet to hold her tickets, cash and passport. The staff  wrote a card to Ms Bernie and the children also made a card for Ms Bernie to say have a safe and happy holiday. When Ms Bernie arrived the children presented her with gifts, cards and cuddles. Neo presented Ms Bernie with the children’s card; Jackson presented Ms Bernie with a post card; Georgie presented Ms Bernie with a flower and Maxwell gave Ms Bernie a great big cuddle because he said he’ll miss Ms Bernie while she is away.

Outcome 2.1.1: Children cooperate and negotiate with each other and educator to choose a gift and design a card. (EYLF)
