New Zealand cultural curriculum

This week we continue with our cultural curriculum exploring children’s timelines and those with cultural backgrounds from New Zealand. We have two families at out center from New Zealand.  We are learning about the traditional dancing, songs, art, tribal designs and food with the support of parents & families.

When learning about the Hakka, Harry was fascinated by the movement of the dancers. Jacob was intrigued with the tribal markings. Tane’ wanted to know more about the customs. All of the boys agreed that they would love to learn the dance moves. Jacob said he would love to learn to play the ukulele and Nevaya said she loves listening to the music. Harry was eager to paint a tribal mask because he said it would like to become a warrior like the men in the dance clips. Noah and joseph thought the concept of cooking food underground was amazing. Once they entered the playground they ran straight to the sandpit dug a hole and lined the hole with rocks and food to cook.

It has been an interesting week with many aspects explored, appreciated and admired from this culture.  Thank you to the mums and their support and curriculum.
