Recipe: chicken noodles and salad

Maxwell has taken the ‘I am a chef’ tote bag and camera home for one week. Maxwell and Nanna have prepared and cooked dinner together.

Nanna had a recipe book for children that she had given to Maxwell to look through and to choose a recipe that herself, grandad and Maxwell would be eating for dinner. After carefully reading through the recipes Maxwell had chosen the chicken noodle dish.

Nana said that they would also be eating salad with the chicken noodle dish. Nana placed all of the ingredients that would be used in the salad. She asked Maxwell to wash his hands with soap and return back to the table. Nana had place the wooden chopping board in front of Maxwell and a sharp knife. She explained the safety rules of using the knife and Maxwell agreed to be safe and sensible.

Nana explained to Maxwell that she would boil an egg in a sauce pan to add to his salad. Nana had her own chopping board and knife and would cut the vegies up into smaller pieces before giving it to Maxwell to chop up. Nanna had given Maxwell a piece of capsicum to slice into strips and two halves of a cherry tomato to be chopped into wedges. Maxwell then shredded the lettuce leaf into strips and placed it into his bowl. Maxwell then placed capsicum slices and tomato wedges on top of the lettuce.

Once the egg was boiled and was allowed to cool down then Nana gave Maxwell the boiled egg to crack the shell and peel it off. Maxwell had peeled the outer shell off and used his knife to chop the boiled egg into wedges as he did with his tomato. The egg wedges were also added to the salad.

The salad bowl was placed to one side so that Maxwell and Nanna could begin to cook the chicken breast that Nana had already diced up into bite sized cubes. Nanna added oil and the chicken cubes to the wok. With supervision Maxwell was using a wooden spoon to toss the chicken cubes. Once the chicken cubes were browned then Nanna and Maxwell added the egg noodles and tossed it to combine with the chicken cubes. The chicken noodle dish has been cooked and has been placed on a plate to rest.

Maxwell, Nanna and Grandpa enjoyed chicken noodles and salad for dinner that night. Grandpa gives the meal a rating of four stars out of five. Maxwell is proud of his achievements and his said he is ready to eat dessert.
