Happy Birthday Megan

NQF Learning Outcome Opportunity: Quality Area 1.1.2 Each child’s current knowledge, ideas, culture, abilities and interests are the foundation of the program.

This morning we are celebrating a special occasion which is Megan’s 4th birthday.  Megan’s cultural background is Dutch and she has decided to share her birthday traditions with her friends and educators. Megan brought in buckets that contained foam and inside the foam were rainbow pencils that were firmly placed inside. Tied to the end of the pencils were paper fish with a packet of sultanas enclosed.  To sing  happy birthday to Megan, the candles were placed inside the bucket and lit. After Megan blew out her candles she walked around and gave all her friends a fish. Megan also brought  in flowers from her family’s flower farm to share with her teachers. Once the children were finished eating morning tea they brought their new rainbow pencils inside and drew pictures. A big thanks to Ilona and Megan’s Grandmother for the effort, everyone had a wonderful time.
