Australia Day Celebrations

For the Australia Day celebrations we had a visit from Ms Nerissa’s brother Douglas and her cousin Jarred to teach the children about her culture; as well as talking about the nation of Australia and how it’s made up of several different cultures and nationalities.

We had a look at the map of Australia and spoke about the location we live in and different people we know from a different back-round and culture to ourselves. We spoke about Ms Bernadette having an Irish back-round and Ms Nerissa being of an Aboriginal back-round and Rex being of a German back-round.

The boys have come in to celebrate Australia Day while Kidscape celebrate a Multicultural Nation. The boys are teaching us how to do Aboriginal dancing and paintings. Jarred did the dancing while Douglas played the didgeridoo. Then Ms Bernadette, Maxwell, Mickey and Jude were dancing with Jarred. Then Douglas demonstrated to the children how to blend colours and painted a few patterns then the children painted their pictures of lizards and turtles. It was a fun time. The children were proud of their artwork and decided to take their artwork home to show their mum and dad.
